ARMA2 Islands and mods Empty ARMA2 Islands and mods

here's some info on community built mods and islands (maps). Keep in mind that ARMA2 from Bohemia International is unlike anything I've seen before and very unlike any COD style FPS, It's a Mil Sim that you can play any way you want, as an FPS, as a RTS game or anywhere in between. You use the mission editor to set up a mission using whatever assets you'd like anywhere on an island.

The learning curve is high as are the comp requirements and it's really, really realistic. Maybe too much sometimes. If you're into sims, a mission can be hours long where you're dealing with lots of people and logistics before a shot is fired, (like RL) or you can set it up with less logistics required and more infantry fighting.

Not that it's new, there's ARMA, a couple of years old and Operation Flash Point before that. Operation Flash Point2 is built by a spin off from BI, Codemasters so it shares a similar type of layout and gameplay, but it seems a little less complicated, a little less realistic and a little easier to play. The ARMA community has an advantage over OFP besides being out since June, in that a lot of the existing mods from ARMA1 are simply being ported over into ARMA2. I think the movement in ARMA2 is better and more natural with freelook, more movement speeds, the ability to roll when prone and lean around obstacles.

Some Islands, each is probably bigger than every map you've ever played in COD4 combined:

Ace combat mod - an ARMA1 mod currently being ported over to ARMA2 - crazy realism. ARMA is far more realistic as stock than any mod we ever had for COD

There's also 3 WW2 mods being ported over along with some WW2 era islands including one so you can do DDay on an accurate, to scale map of the coast of France. Pretty wild.

Plus lots and lots of other mods for everything from accurate gear and uniforms for many nationalities, Starwars Storm troopers, aircraft, vehicles and aircraft carriers.
